Umrah Travel for Leicester Pilgrims

You Have More Choice
Than Anyone Is Telling You

Leicester has one of the largest Muslim populations of any British city. Walk along Melton Road, or down through Highfields, and you will pass travel agents advertising Umrah in half the shop windows. So why bother reading a page from a company based in London?

Fair question. Here is the honest answer.

Your postcode gives you an advantage that almost nobody bothers to use. Birmingham sits roughly an hour away. Manchester is a bit further but entirely reachable. Both carry routes into Saudi Arabia, and because airlines price seats independently, the gap between them on any given week can be considerable. Most agents quote whichever airport they habitually book and leave it at that. You never find out what the other one cost.

We check both. Every time. Then we put the two figures in front of you with the journey times alongside, and you pick.

Everything else comes from the same range as every Umrah package we arrange for pilgrims across the UK, using identical contracted hotels and the same ground team in Saudi Arabia. What changes on this page is the departure logistics, nothing else.

  • Return flights from your chosen airport
  • Nusuk permit processed for you
  • Hotels near Masjid al Haram
  • Hotels near Masjid an Nabawi
  • Every Saudi transfer included
  • Guided Ziyarah in both cities
  • Deposits from £99
  • ATOL certificate on payment

The East Midlands Trap

Your Nearest Airport
Will Not Take You to Jeddah

East Midlands sits twenty five miles up the M1. Thirty five minutes on a clear morning. Cheap parking, short queues, and completely useless for Umrah.

Nothing flies from there to Jeddah or Madinah. It never has. The route network at EMA was built around European short haul and freight, and Saudi Arabia has simply never been part of it. Every season somebody rings us having assumed otherwise, usually after booking time off work.

So where are Leicester pilgrims actually flying from?

Birmingham, mostly. Straight down the M69 onto the M6, roughly an hour depending on the time you set off, and services into Saudi Arabia run from there either direct or through a single connection according to season and carrier. Manchester is the other genuine contender, a longer drive at close to two hours, and on certain dates the fare makes that drive worth it.

Then there is the option most people forget. Leicester to London St Pancras takes a shade over an hour on East Midlands Railway, and Heathrow is a straightforward Underground run from there. For a pilgrim who wants a direct flight above everything else, particularly one travelling with elderly parents, that train is often the sensible answer even though it looks like the long way round.

Birmingham About an hour by road, M69 then M6 Our usual recommendation for Leicester departures. Closest major hub, long stay parking is reasonable, and the drive is manageable even at 4am with a car full of Ihram bags.
Manchester Closer to two hours by road, or direct rail Worth checking properly rather than dismissing. On plenty of dates Manchester undercuts Birmingham by enough to justify the extra driving, especially across a group of ten or more.
Heathrow via St Pancras Just over an hour by train, then the Underground The forgotten option. No parking bill, no motorway at dawn, and the widest choice of direct flights into Jeddah and Madinah. Ideal when somebody in the party cannot face a connection.
East Midlands Twenty five miles, thirty five minutes Your closest airport by a distance, and no help whatsoever. No carrier operates from EMA to Saudi Arabia. Convenience counts for nothing if the flight does not exist.
Routes shift, so we check rather than assume

Airlines add and drop services from regional airports fairly often, and seasonal charters come and go. We confirm what is actually flying on your dates before quoting, then tell you the route and the time to leave Leicester when your itinerary is issued.

Choose Your Hotel Tier

Leicester Umrah Packages from £765

Flights, Nusuk permit processing, hotels in both cities, every transfer in Saudi Arabia and guided Ziyarah are covered whichever tier you pick. Deposits start at £99. What changes between tiers is mainly how far you walk to the Haram, which matters more than most pilgrims expect until they are standing there in August. For the detail, see what actually separates 3, 4 and 5 star Umrah hotels.

Prices shown are starting points per person and move with the departure month, the airport and how close to the Haram you want to be. Ramadan and the school holidays sit well above these figures and fill early. Still weighing up how many nights you can realistically take? Our breakdown of how trip length changes what you get out of the journey is worth ten minutes. And if your dates are flexible, departures across the full calendar shows where the quiet months sit.

Straight Talk

No, We Do Not Have
a Shop on Melton Road

Plenty of agencies advertising to Leicester will imply a local presence they do not actually have. We would rather not play that game, so here it is plainly: our office is at 665 Romford Road in London, and Leicester bookings are handled by phone, email and WhatsApp.

Does that matter? Honestly, less than you might think, provided the paperwork is right.

What protects you is not a shopfront. It is documentation. Before a penny leaves your account you receive the hotel name and its distance from the Haram in writing, the flight numbers, the full itinerary and your ATOL certificate under licence 12834. Every one of those is checkable. The licence number takes about a minute to verify on the Civil Aviation Authority register, and we would encourage you to do exactly that before paying anybody, us included.

Where a local office genuinely helps is when someone in the family wants to sit down and ask questions face to face. If that is important to you, book locally and we will not be offended. If you would rather deal with a named consultant who answers the phone and puts everything in writing, we are a good fit.

What to Have Ready When You Ring

Rough dates with a little flexibility either side, how many are travelling and the ages of any children, plus whether anybody in the party struggles with walking. Those three things let us quote properly rather than guess. Nothing needs paying on the call, and most first conversations are about narrowing options rather than booking.

Not Included, and Why

Travel InsuranceWe recommend it strongly but do not sell it, so you are free to buy cover that actually suits your health rather than ours.
MenACWY VaccinationRequired for your Nusuk permit, available through your NHS GP. Book it at least ten days before travel or the certificate will not stand.
Meals Beyond BreakfastBed and breakfast is standard. Eating around the Haram costs very little and most pilgrims would rather choose for themselves.
Getting to the UK AirportYour drive or train to Birmingham, Manchester or London. We tell you the route and what time to set off, and can arrange a private transfer on request.
Passport RenewalSix months validity beyond entry is required. Check yours today, because renewals take weeks and this delays more bookings than anything else we see.

Who Rings Us From Leicester

Four Conversations We Have
With Leicester Families

If one of these sounds like yours, you already know what to ask us.

Masjid Group Departures

A group leader rings, we agree a departure window, and rooms get held while members confirm one at a time. Payment stages are settled upfront so nobody ends up chasing anybody. One piece of advice we give every single group leader: start your Ramadan planning in autumn, not spring. The hotels closest to the Haram are contracted a long way ahead and the good ones go first, whatever anyone is prepared to pay later.

Sending Parents for the First Time

This is the call we take most often from Leicester. Adult children arranging travel for parents who rarely fly and may not be comfortable in English. We talk about hotel distance honestly, because a walk that reads as nothing on paper is a very different matter in August heat for somebody in their seventies. Wheelchair assistance, ground floor rooms, a guide who speaks Gujarati or Urdu. All arrangeable. Just say so early.

Families Tied to School Holidays

Easter, October half term, the summer break. Those weeks dominate family bookings and the pricing reflects it, sometimes brutally. Locked into school dates? Book far earlier than feels necessary. Got any flexibility at all? We will show you what the identical package costs a fortnight either side, and the gap genuinely surprises people. Connecting rooms near the Haram are limited, so secure them at deposit stage rather than hoping something frees up.

Working Around a Non British Passport

Leicester's Muslim community is rooted all over the world, and a great many pilgrims here hold an Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi or Somali passport alongside UK residence. Nusuk processing times differ and the document set is not identical. Completely routine for us, but only when we know at the first conversation rather than a fortnight before the flight. Mention it upfront and the right timeline gets built into your dates from the start.

Also Serving Loughborough, Coalville and Market Harborough

Leicester is where most of our East Midlands enquiries come from, but the airport logic holds across the county. Loughborough sits closer to East Midlands and no closer to anything useful. Coalville and Hinckley shave a few minutes off the Birmingham run. Market Harborough is arguably better placed for the train down to St Pancras than Leicester itself.

Wherever in Leicestershire you are starting from, the packages and the prices are the same. If your dates land in the hottest months, read our honest take on what a summer Umrah is really like before committing, and families on a tighter budget should look at the 3 star family arrangements we run.
