The rites themselves can be completed in a few hours, so the question is really about how much time you want in the two holy cities rather than the ritual. Most UK pilgrims book between 7 and 14 nights. Seven nights fits a single week of annual leave. Ten nights is the most balanced option for first time pilgrims. Fourteen nights suits families, school holidays and anyone who wants to perform Umrah more than once without rushing.

For most healthy adults, yes. A 7 night trip usually gives four nights in Makkah and three in Madinah, which is enough to perform Umrah, pray several days at Masjid al Haram and spend meaningful time at Masjid an Nabawi. The honest trade off is pace. Arrival and departure days are largely travel, so your usable time is closer to five full days. If your leave stretches to ten nights, that is the upgrade we would recommend before any hotel upgrade.

Ten nights. It absorbs jet lag rather than fighting it, gives roughly six nights in Makkah so the daily rhythm of prayer has time to settle, and leaves enough slack that a delayed flight or one unwell day does not compromise the whole journey. First timers also benefit from having time to become familiar with the gates and routes before the trip ends.

Since October 2025 the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah requires pilgrims to enter the Kingdom within 30 days of the permit being issued, after which it is cancelled automatically and a new application is needed. The permitted length of stay once you arrive has been revised more than once in recent seasons, so we verify the rule that applies to your specific departure date before your booking is finalised. Every package we sell is built to sit comfortably inside the current allowance.

Usually the reverse. Flights and permit processing are fixed costs that do not increase with trip length, so on a longer package they are spread across more nights. A 21 night trip normally works out lower per night than a 7 night one even though the total is higher. If value per night matters to you, compare the nightly figure rather than the headline price.

It depends which part of the month matters most. Pilgrims who want to be present for the last ten nights usually book 10 to 14 nights so they can catch the odd nights. Pilgrims travelling in the first half of Ramadan often find 7 nights sufficient. Either way, Ramadan groups fill considerably earlier than any other departure window and hotel rates rise sharply, so early enquiry matters more than it does at other times of year.

Extensions are often possible where hotel rooms and flight seats allow, though airline change fees usually apply once tickets have been issued. Shortening a trip is harder because hotel nights may already be committed.
