5 Day Umrah Packages: The Complete UK Pilgrim’s Guide

A 5 day Umrah package is among the most sought after choices for UK based Muslims who wish to undertake the lesser pilgrimage without having to take too much time off work. These short Umrah packages usually comprise the return flight from a UK airport, hotel accommodation in Makkah (sometimes including Madinah also), the Travel Formalities process and transfers from the airport with prices ranging between about Β£750 and Β£1,800 per person according to what rating of hotel you want to stay in, which airport you are flying out of and so on.

I understood this when I co-led hundreds of pilgrims over the years through Aqdas Travel, and have seen how a 5-night trip can be profoundly fulfilling when scripted well, and genuinely stressful when it’s not. Here’s what virtually all guides don’t tell you.

Is 5 Days Enough to Do Umrah?

And really, it simply depends on what you’re aiming for. If you are going to complete the rituals of Umrah, spend quality time in Masjid al-Haram and have a short visit to the significant Ziyarat places, five days in Makkah is feasible. What it’s not is a proper Makkah and Madinah package. The way some operators sell it in a 5 day package, you will actually find yourself sitting on the road more than inside Raudah.

My honest recommendation? If it will be your first time doing Umrah, we would recommend a 7 night or 10 night package. If you’ve already done Umrah and just looking to go back for ibadah, a 5 day trip can be really potent.

What You Really Get on a 5 Day Package from the UK

One detail that many pilgrims find surprising after booking a 5 day tour is how little time you actually have in Makkah: it ends up being closer to 3.5 days because of travel, check-in and check-out. You arrive tired on day one after a 5 to 7 hour flight. You check out on morning of day five. Don’t be deterred by that, but do plan accordingly.

How to Maximise a 5 Night Umrah Trip: An Actionable Plan

Step 1: Do Umrah on the Day of Arrival (If You Are Coming Direct)

Most pilgrims arriving on an afternoon or evening flight may don ihram at the miqat during the flight and proceed directly to Haram after depositing their luggage. Don’t delay. That’s one “extra” Umrah before you’ve actually even begun day two.

Step 2: Space Your Tawafs Out

The Haram is bearable between 2am and 4am. It’s not one of those travel blog clichΓ©s, it really is the most spiritual time, when the nights turn cooler and you have much less people around. Make this your sleep schedule from night one.

Step 3: Keep Day Three for Ziyarat

Jabal Thawr, Jabal an-Nour, Cave of Hira. These sites are best visited halfway through your trip when you’re acclimatised to the time zone (+3 hours from UK). Don’t rush things on day one when you’re jet-lagged. Our Umrah guide for UK pilgrims covers Ziyarat planning in more detail.

Step 4: Book Hotel Distance Knowingly

For a 5 day trip in particular, there’s a vast difference between being 800m away from Masjid al-Haram and being only 100m. That’s over forty extra minutes walking under heat which can often surpass 35 degrees even in the winter months.

Step 5: Get Your Travel Formalities Sorted Early

An Umrah Travel Formalities for Saudi Arabia can be processed in under 48 hours, but problems do arise. If it’s your first visit, book a package with an ATOL-protected operator who processes the Travel Formalities as part of the deal, and don’t try using the Nusuk app independently.

Pro Tips You Won’t Get from a Nearby Agency

Choose a package with Tuesday or Wednesday travel. Weekend departures (Friday/Saturday) from Manchester or London are usually Β£80 to Β£150 more, and the Haram is noticeably fuller those opening days as group packages largely come in at around the same time.

Travelling in Ramadan? Forget 5 days. The spiritual weight carried in the final 10 nights is unmatched, but with capacity at Masjid al-Haram during that time, a 5 day stint will hardly put a dent into it. Book 14+ nights for Ramadan or travel during a quieter time. See our Ramadan Umrah packages for full options.

Confirmed ATOL protection is non-negotiable. All reputable UK Umrah operators like us at Aqdas Travel (ATOL 12834) will have valid ATOL certificates. Inspect the Civil Aviation Authority register before you hand over any cash.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in a 5 day Umrah package from the UK?

Standard packages normally comprise return flights, Umrah Travel Formalities and hotel accommodation including bed and breakfast. Guided Ziyarat trips and meals beyond breakfast are typically an optional extra.

What is the cost of a 5 day Umrah package from the UK?

Costs vary from around Β£750 for basic 3-star to over Β£1,800 for top end 5-star with direct flights and private transfers. Rates are highest during Ramadan, school vacations and the period of Dhul Hijjah.

Is it possible to do Umrah in 5 days?

Yes. The actual rituals, Tawaf, Sa’i and halq or taqsir, can be completed in a couple of hours. Five days gives you time to perform Umrah more than once and space for additional ibadah.

Do 5 day Umrah packages include Madinah?

Most genuine 5 day packages are for Makkah alone. Some companies offer a “combined” trip with a brief Madinah stop, but 7 to 8 nights is more like it if you want any sort of meaningful visit to Madinah.

Is it safe to perform Umrah without travelling in a group?

Yes, solo Umrah is permitted. Women under 45 are allowed to travel without a mahram in an authorised group, according to updated Saudi government regulations.

When is the best time to book a short Umrah trip from the UK?

The best value in terms of hotel rates and airfares is usually available from November to early February (excluding Ramadan). The best selection of hotel proximity options comes from booking 3 to 4 months in advance.

What should I do if my Umrah Travel Formalities is delayed?

Book with an ATOL-protected operator and make clear that Travel Formalities processing is their obligation as part of the contract. All good operators carry backup documentation plans for last minute delays.

Your Next Steps

If you are seriously thinking about a 5 day Umrah package, first think about when you would like to go and which departure airport suits you best. Then secure quotes from two or three ATOL-protected UK operators and compare hotel distance to Haram, not just star rating. It is the physical proximity difference that will define your experience.

If you do it right, a brief Umrah trip is one of the most focused, uncluttered acts of worship you can offer. No distractions, compact schedule, real purpose. For many pilgrims I have spoken with over the years, that seemingly short 5 night trip turned into the one they remember most vividly.
