Understand the Mahram Rules Before You Book

Saudi Arabia requires women under 45 to travel with a mahram for Umrah. Women aged 45 and over may travel without a personal mahram as part of an organised group — a collective mahram letter is submitted by the group leader. If you are under 45 and your mahram cannot travel, please speak to us before booking so we can advise you on the options available and the current Saudi requirements at the time of your intended travel date.

Get the Meningitis ACWY Vaccine Early

The meningococcal ACWY vaccination is a mandatory entry requirement for Saudi Arabia for all Umrah pilgrims. You need this specific strain — not the standard meningitis vaccine. Book your appointment with a GP or travel clinic as soon as your trip is confirmed. Availability can be limited during peak booking seasons. Keep the certificate somewhere safe as you will need it for your visa application.

Pack Modestly and Practically

Saudi Arabia requires modest dress at all times, particularly in and around the holy mosques. Loose, full-length, breathable clothing is essential — the heat can be significant even in the cooler months. Women must cover their hair in the Haram. Bring comfortable walking shoes as you will cover significant distances, a personal water bottle, light layers for air-conditioned spaces, and any regular medication with a doctor's letter if needed.

Know What to Expect at the Holy Mosques

Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah are both vast and can feel overwhelming at first.
